Babar
Here's some information on Babar the elephant and his creator, Laurent de Brunhoff:
Babar
You now know enough French that you can start learning the language through reading. Babar is the perfect starting point because it is written for small children and the vocabulary is quite basic.
As we read, I would like you to take notes on the handouts, writing down definitions for all vocabulary that is new to you, as well as grammatical concepts, such as the past tense.
Simple past tense: Conjugate avoir + verb with -é at the end in place of the -er.
In other words, "I have spoken." "We have worked"=We worked
J'ai parlé
Tu as voyagé
Elle a chanté
Nous avons travaillé
Vous avez dîné
Ils ont dansé
We swam
Nous avons  nagé
Jacques et Jill ont  marché
Nous avons regardé
Vous avez  regardé
Elle a joué
avoir conjugations
There is a second past tense that is formed by adding -ais, ait, ions, iez, aient to the verb.
This past tense is used for habitual actions in the past, such as "When I was little, I played tennis."
"Quand j'étais jeune, je jouais au tennis."

LUNDI, le deux mars

HAND IN HOMEWORK TODAY, THURSDAY (the translations of sentences found below). I've been going over your dictées and have noticed that many of you still need to work on basic verb conjugations. Page 98 in the textbook shows you which endings to add to "er" verbs for the various subject pronouns. After you review this, write out the translations for the English sentences you will find below. If you finish early, write more sentences of your own using the verbs listed at the end of my list. We will have a quiz over leçon 10 on Thursday and it is difficult. Most of you need to review the following pages in the textbook: 98, 100, 108, 110, 138, 139, 140, 142, 144, 152 (we will work on this tomorrow),155, 156. Pages in bold are particularly important. I don't want anyone doing homework for other classes this week considering that no one had a perfect test. To review for the test, I would recommend that you go to the flashcards that I have provided and memorize the spelling of all words studied.

HAND IN TODAY. MERCI!!!

MA SEMAINE  10 points
Dans le texte, tournez à la page 161, ex. 5
Ecrivez un paragraphe
I would like your paragraphs to be very descriptive and very interesting. Remember, language is all about communication, and when you write to other people, you want them to get to know you. The example in the book for ex. 5 makes it look like you should just write the most basic sentences possible. I want you to write the best sentences you can, using everything we have learned this year.

HOMEWORK: After you have finished your paragraph, post it to the following
Google Doc: 3rd period MA SEMAINE
Google Doc: 4th period MA SEMAINE
To do this, all you have to do is copy and paste it in because all of you have editing privileges.
Have fun, and tell the class a bit about you. Feel free to add more details than the assignment requires.
